Think back to a time, maybe this morning on your daily commute to work or last night, running those last minute errands before your week starts again. Have you ever thought “Man, Arizona has the worst drivers?” We are here to set the record straight and let you in on the top secret information of which state really holds the title for worst drivers.

There are five categories for each score, Fatalities Rate per 100 Million Vehicles Traveled, Failure to Obey, Drunk Driving, Tickets, and last but not least, Careless Driving. The scores for each category have been added up to give a total score.

Keep in mind that the higher the score, the worse the state is. Here they are-2013’s Top 10.

Best Ranking Factor: Tickets: 6th
Worst Ranking Factor: Drunk Driving: 50th
North Dakota has their ticket problem under control, but definitely need to do something about having a drink and getting behind the wheel.

#9. Montana
Best Ranking Factor: Tickets: 2nd
Worst Ranking Factor: Fatalities Rate & Drunk Driving: 51st
For those of you who don’t understand how bad Montana has it , their fatalities and drunk driving has the worst possible rank, as there are only 51 states.

There are two tied for #7.

Best Ranking Factor: Drunk Driving: 31st
Worst Ranking Factor: Careless Driving: 44th

Missouri
Best Ranking Factor: Careless Driving: 25th
Worst Ranking Factor: Failure to Obey: 48th

#6. Florida
Best Ranking Factor: Drunk Driving: 18th
Worst Ranking Factor: Careless Driving: 51st
The Sunshine State has to stop being less careless while driving, but they are getting drunk driving under control.

#5. Alabama
Best Ranking Factor: Drunk Driving: 26th
Worst Ranking Factor: Tickets: 49th
Alabama has gotten their drunken driving rank under control, but their ticket rate is flying out of control.

#4. Texas
Best Ranking Factor: Failure to Obey: 33rd
Worst Ranking Factor: Drunk Driving: 47th
Everything is bigger in Texas, too bad that counts for their rank in drunk driving too.

#3. Mississippi
Best Ranking Factor: Drunk Driving: 31st
Worst Ranking Factor: Fatalities Rate: 47th

Louisiana has finished #1 for the second time in a row now and it is safe to say it is the home for the worst drivers in the US.

It is unfortunate that a major factor in the ranking of the worst drivers is the drunken driving record. In spite of the highly published “do not drink and drive” campaign, many people still get behind the wheel when they should not.
